Stop FGM group has today hosted a community dialogue meeting titled ‘’The role of Somali youth in ending FGM in the country’’ while in Mogadishu where several Somali youths have decided to register as our new volunteers.
The participants-mostly youths- discussed the role of young Somalis in eradication and ending Female Genitale Mutilation which is also known as Female Genital Cutting.
Leylo Ahmed,STOP FGM Group director, who opened the community dialogue meeting expressesed that the group stood up for the rights of Somali girl child .
‘’ As Somali youth, we stood up to end FGM and child marriage across Somalia, We stood up to defend the rights of our girls and we will continue supporting them,’’ Leila said.
She added that STOP FGM group will organize more trainings and workshops for Somali midwives and Somali media professionals with the support of International partners as soon as possible.
‘’ We want to focus on training Somali midwives and Journalists because these two groups could take a big step in the eradication Female Genital Mutilation in this country, ‘She said.
The participants finally suggested that men could as well take a big role for the eradication of all forms of Gender Based Violences (GBV) in Somalia.
